Twelve Jewels
By Peter Tumminello Published 2005

Precious and semi-precious stones have long been recognised as having a power over diseases and destinies. This book is a synthesis of experiences, information, case notes and illustrations of twelve precious and semi-precious gemstones and their use in homoeopathy. It is the result of hundreds of experiments carried out by eighty-six individuals over a period of 10 years in Australia, which is a home to almost all of these exceptional crystals and gems. It includes many references from the historical use of these stones as known through healers and sensitives from lands as far flung as Europe, India, Burma and Australia.

This work was conceived and largely written by Peter Tumminello, an Australian homeopath from Sydney, who was inspired to gather quality gemstones, prepare them into medicines and prove them. While it was driven by his vision, it is a composite of the experiences, ideas and understandings from a core group of homeopathic provers. This group met over 10 years and worked to distill the essential healing themes of these medicines including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual indications. When they were part way to achieving this they were joined by a talented and inspired artist who had already been working with gems as transformers of energy. The result is a rare composite of image, colour and healing truths.

Excerpts, Reviewers and Commentators
Jan Scholten, in the Foreword, January 2005
“The personal attitude has also led to a deep respect for these gems and Nature. Peter hasn’t broken the gems in order to triturate them. His respect for the gems didn’t allow him to do that. The gems were prepared by immersing them in water, and then potentising the water. One can wonder that this insightful respect has become part of the remedy pictures.”
“This book is an important extension of the homeopathic Materia Medica; it brings a deepening of our knowledge of remedies and is a personal engagement that makes homeopathy alive. It’s a beautiful book.”

Melanie Creedy, Homeopath, Hobart, Australia
“I just wanted to say how beautiful the book is!! I already had the remedies and used quite a few with my other information, but now I can begin to understand remedies such as Pearl and Lapis.” “The book is so well laid out and the energy of the remedies is so strong. I always like it when I can “feel” the remedy rather than have to “think” it too much. I love the illustrations and photos.”

Misha Norland, Principal School of Homeopathy, England
“I have had the pleasure of using Peter’s book since he published it and finding cures on the basis of his extensive information. His book is literally as full of wonder as are the ‘love affairs’ which we have, and the significances which we find, in the jewels themselves. When you hear Peter speak of his work and experiences, you will be drawn into a world of healing at the level of essence, finding the spiritual core of what makes a given gem resonate with a given case.”

Michael Blanch, homeopath, Perth, Western Australia
“I just had to let you know how amazing I find it. As I said, I have already had some great results with Diamond, so I am looking forward to absorbing the information and using all the remedies.”
“At last, a homoeopathy book not afraid to include the spiritual dimension! For too long most have us have been stuck in the Vithoulkas model: man is only the intellect, the emotions and the physical.“
“Your book is also one of the most beautiful I have ever seen on any subject, well worth the hefty price and more importantly, worthy of its subject, the jewels. Well done!”

Alize Timmerman, Hahnemann Institute, the Hague, Netherlands
“Gems have long shown that they have healing power and are a missing part of our Materia Medica. As they are essentially composed of basic elements like calcium and aluminium, they should be useful for patients who lack a base in their lives. Peter has developed a beautiful Materia Medica for the gems. They will play a vital part in homeopathy in the future.”

Jon Gamble, Homeopath and Naturopath, New South Wales, Australia
“I love your book, it is a work of devotion and art, as well as a thoughtful study in the gems.”

Review by Marguerite Pelt, Homeopath, Netherlands
“With ‘heart and soul’ he has worked to complete this voluminous book. Peter Tumminello, an Australian homeopath and amateur geologist. Faithful readers of Links will know him from his articles on Rhodonite (1999) and at the moment on Diamond. With all his being (or essence) he dived into the matter and spirit of gemstones. And the book has grown to be a jewel: well got-up, beautiful illustrations, shiny white paper… the nearly 500 pages reading and viewing pleasure fulfil the price. They possess a treasure of information about gems in general and twelve specific jewels: on the field of mineralogy, chemistry, symbolism and mythology. And of course – not to forget –on homeopathy.” “There he has elaborated on mental, emotional, physical, spiritual themes and for each remedy he describes a positive and negative ‘essence’. The core power in this book is in the provings and the very striking cases. The provings have not been done in a conventional way, but are mostly based on meditation provings. Tumminello had knowingly (consciously) chosen for this procedure and gives us six reasons why he came to this choice….”

Review by Alastair Gray, Homeopath, Brisbane, Australia
“Homeopathic medicine is imbued with the spirit of experimentation, change and movement through that experience. It started like that with Hahnemann. It’s still there now. It is no accident to me that those most busy and dynamic of homeopaths seem to be the ones that engage in a meaningful way (manufacture and proving) with the medicines. Provings of new remedies and the re-provings of the old are vital to us as a profession and to us personally in order to grow.” “Peter Tumminello in this book has introduced twelve more remedies, and in a way that remedy information has never been presented before. It’s a gem. It’s an immediately personal book. At the outset Peter describes his journey into working with these substances. The book itself is a stunner. Hard bound and 468 pages, it is heavy. But the weight is all good; the paper. It is high quality and the illustrations and photos have immediate richness. But there is substance too. Included are the details of the individual provings. There is an index of concepts and themes of these medicines at the back of the book. As a consequence Peter has been able to begin a much needed profile of the gems as a family which will inevitably grow as other members are added to it and as we get further clinical verification.”

Foreword By Dr Jan Scholten , Netherlands, January 2005
Some four years ago Peter Tumminello told me about his experiences with Diamond and Opal. His enthusiasm about those gems and remedies was very infectious. I encouraged him to write a book about his fabulous stories, which he was already intending. Over the next few years I asked him regularly about his book, and each time his answer was that it was almost ready, but that it was delayed because he had so many new ideas and gems that had to be included. This is typical of Peter’s thoroughness; he wants his descriptions to be perfect and his provings to go to the depth and core of the remedy. Peter’s search for the essence of remedies led him into the spiritual realm. His descriptions of remedies have all the usual and common physical and psychological aspects. But they also go further into the spiritual meaning, conveying what the remedy means for the spiritual path of the patient. This is a very valuable extension that makes remedies understood on a deeper level. His experiences with these remedies have been a long journey. This will be obvious when you read this book. And it has become a real, personal journey. Peter hasn’t been afraid to go into the worlds of these gems himself. Due to this, some homeopaths might object that his descriptions aren’t objective enough. But that’s an old-fashioned way of thinking, not recognizing the idea of the distant and objective observer doesn’t exist. Even in physics, the most ‘objective’ science, it has become clear that the observer is part and influences the object. The act of observing becomes part of the object seen. Or said more precisely, the object, subject and observing merge into one thing. The confusion arises from the words subjective and objective. Subjective has the connotation of being unreal, something the subject puts into the phenomenon. But an observer can be very objective when he’s prepared to look at his own problems. Then he can distract his own projections from his ‘objective’ subjective observations. Peter has succeeded in doing that. So his personal journey has been transformed into an objective rapport of these wonderful gems. In this sense one can understand his diversion from the old rules of doing provings. In his provings the provers knew the remedy many times. Peter knew that he had to do things such as this in order to find the depth of the remedies. The personal attitude has also led to a deep respect for these gems and Nature. Peter hasn’t broken the gems in order to triturate them. His respect for the gems didn’t allow him to do that. The gems were prepared by immersing them in water, and then potentising the water. One can wonder that this insightful respect has become part of the remedy pictures. This book is an important extension of the homeopathic Materia Medica; it brings a deepening of our knowledge of remedies and is a personal engagement that makes homeopathy alive. It’s a beautiful book.”
